2019 Silver Scholarship Recipient

Brian Duval

Congratulations to our 2019 FOSRX/FAST Silver Scholarship Winner, Brian Duval!

Brian lives with both Crohn’s Disease and Severe Hemophilia A. He is an incoming Freshman at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln majoring in Finance and Political Science.

Despite living with frequent bouts of illness and severe hemophilia, Brian is ambitious and hardworking as he strives to live a healthy and active life.

I am very proud of how I have been able to overcome my hardships. Aside from living with two major medical conditions, I suffered the loss of my father and a house fire that destroyed everything we owned.

After experiencing deep personal loss and the continued challenge of living with his diagnoses, Brian has earned a second-degree black belt in karate, learned 2 instruments, continued improving his performance in school, became an active member in the hemophilia community, and competed in the national competition for DECA, a business competition club. Brian was also involved with healthcare lobbying and hemophilia advocacy through representing Minnesota at Washington Days, a national hemophilia advocacy event. His experience of meeting with elected officials and their aides to lobby for legislation that benefits people living with bleeding disorders helped influence his goal of becoming a lobbyist for the National Hemophilia Foundation as his future career.

It is an honor to support students like Brian in their educational pursuits. We wish you the best, Brian! Have a great school year.
